The Challenge
The primary challenge F5 Networks faced was the complexity and inefficiency of migrating security policies between their diverse platforms, including BIG-IP, Distributed Cloud, and NGINX App Protect. This not only posed a risk of losing clients to competitors but also hampered F5's ability to showcase their advanced migration capabilities. The task was to develop a unified API that could simplify these migrations, enabling clients to seamlessly transition their security policies between platforms without the need for direct assistance from F5 staff. F5 Networks identified a pressing need to simplify migrations between their platforms. Seeking to reduce client churn and bolster satisfaction, F5 visualized a unified API to alleviate the complexities of manual reconfigurations. We developed a full-stack, Security Policy Supervisor system for F5 Networks and their distributed cloud native, security and networking products. We created a converter between platform security policies (BIG IP, F5 Distributed Cloud Services and NGINX) and their new unifying security policy. The platform automatically tests policies against all kinds of attacks, violations, learning modes, enforcements etc. in both source and destination policy. F5's clients can now switch between their products with ease. By offering a seamless, secure, and efficient migration process, the project not only prevented potential client loss but also fortified F5's position as a leader in security and cloud services. The innovative solution empowered F5's sales teams, enabling them to demonstrate the platform's capabilities effectively, thereby facilitating client retention and satisfaction
